Traffic Engineer
Location: Islington, London
Working Hours: 35 hours
Pay Rate: £30 - £35 per hour (via umbrella)
About the Role
Our client is looking for an experienced Traffic Engineer to support the delivery of key traffic and parking initiatives during a period of planned staff absence. This role is an excellent opportunity to join a progressive and community-focused authority working on sustainable and active travel solutions.
You will be responsible for the design and delivery of small to medium-sized traffic and parking schemes, while also supporting Senior and Principal Engineers. The post sits within the Traffic & Engineering Service, a team leading on projects that promote cleaner, greener streets.
- Design traffic and parking schemes using AutoCAD
- Support delivery of projects such as Low Traffic Neighbourhoods, School Streets, cycle and bus infrastructure, and greening initiatives
- Assist Senior and Principal Engineers with planning and implementation
- Engage with internal teams and external stakeholders to progress schemes from design through to construction
- Ensure designs meet all necessary safety, legal, and technical standards
The Candidate:
- Previous experience working as a Traffic Engineer within a local authority
- Strong technical design skills, particularly using AutoCAD
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Understanding of transport policy, road safety, and parking regulations
- A practical and solution-oriented approach to urban traffic challenges
