The Opportunity

A good Tekla model doesn't just look right on screen. It needs to work when the steel reaches the workshop and ultimately, the site.

That's why this role is about more than simply producing drawings.

A leading structural steel contractor is looking for an experienced Tekla Detailer to join its team in Wakefield, working on a varied portfolio of major construction and infrastructure projects.

You'll be responsible for taking engineering information and turning it into detailed, accurate models and fabrication information that can be taken from the drawing office through to manufacturing and installation.

And with the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects, this is a role where your detailing experience will genuinely be tested.

The Role

As a Tekla Detailer, you'll be responsible for producing detailed 3D models, fabrication drawings and associated documentation for structural steelwork projects.

You'll work closely with structural engineers, project managers, estimators, fabrication teams and site personnel, making sure the steelwork is detailed correctly and efficiently before it reaches fabrication.

This isn't a role for someone who has only used Tekla from a design perspective.

You'll need to understand how steel is actually fabricated and erected, spotting potential issues in the drawing office before they become expensive problems in the workshop or on site.

What you'll be doing

• Producing detailed 3D structural steel models using Tekla Structures
• Preparing fabrication and erection drawings from engineering information
• Producing accurate GA, assembly and single-part drawings
• Interpreting structural and engineering drawings and translating them into fabrication details
• Ensuring models and drawings comply with project specifications and relevant standards
• Liaising with structural engineers, project managers, fabrication teams and site personnel
• Coordinating structural steel with other trades and disciplines where required
• Identifying and resolving detailing issues before fabrication
• Incorporating design revisions and changes into models and drawings
• Producing material lists, bolt lists and other fabrication information
• Ensuring drawings are completed accurately and within project deadlines
• Supporting the wider drawing office and project teams throughout the project lifecycle
• Attending project and technical meetings where required
• Maintaining consistently high standards of modelling and drawing quality

What are they looking for?

The ideal candidate will already have experience working as a Tekla Detailer or Structural Steel Detailer within a structural steel fabrication or contracting environment.

You'll need to understand not only how to model steelwork, but what happens after the model leaves your screen.

You'll ideally have:

• Strong experience using Tekla Structures
• Previous experience detailing structural steelwork
• Proven ability to produce fabrication, assembly and erection drawings
• A good understanding of steel fabrication and construction processes
• The ability to read and interpret structural engineering drawings
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• The ability to manage your own workload and competing deadlines
• Good communication skills
• The ability to work effectively as part of a wider project team

Experience working on large-scale or technically complex structural steel projects would be highly advantageous.

Knowledge of relevant British and European standards, structural steel coordination, CNC/fabrication outputs and complex connections would also be beneficial.

You understand that a small error on a drawing can become a much bigger problem once steel is being fabricated or erected, so accuracy and attention to detail are fundamental to the way you work.
