The Opportunity
An established structural steelwork contractor is seeking an experienced Tekla Detailer to join their growing technical team in Preston. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a wide range of structural steel projects across commercial, industrial, residential, and infrastructure sectors.
The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate 3D models and fabrication-ready drawings using Tekla Structures, ensuring all steelwork is fully detailed, coordinated, and ready for manufacture and site erection.
You will work closely with engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams to ensure designs are translated into efficient, buildable, and cost-effective steelwork solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed 3D models of structural steelwork using Tekla Structures.
- Generate fabrication drawings, general arrangement drawings, and erection drawings.
- Prepare connection details in line with engineering specifications and project requirements.
- Produce material lists, bolt lists, and CNC data for fabrication.
- Coordinate steel models with architectural and engineering designs to ensure clash-free solutions.
- Work closely with structural engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams to resolve design and detailing issues.
- Amend and update models and drawings in line with client, engineer, and internal feedback.
- Ensure all detailing work complies with relevant British Standards, Eurocodes, and project specifications.
- Attend coordination meetings as required throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support fabrication and site teams by resolving technical queries during manufacture and erection.
- Maintain accurate drawing revisions and project documentation.
- Deliver detailing packages in line with agreed project programmes and deadlines.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Tekla Detailer within the structural steelwork industry.
- Strong proficiency in Tekla Structures software.
- Good understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection processes.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering and architectural drawings.
- Knowledge of steel connections and detailing principles.
- Familiarity with British Standards and Eurocodes.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage workload across multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Good communication skills and ability to work within a project team environment.
- Experience producing fabrication-ready steel detailing packages.
Desirable
- Experience working on large-scale or complex structural steel projects.
- Knowledge of BIM coordination processes.
- Understanding of fabrication workflows and workshop practices.
- Experience working directly with engineers and fabrication teams in a contractor environment.
- Relevant technical qualifications in construction, engineering, or steelwork detailing.
