A growing structural steel specialist is looking for an experienced Structural Steel Estimator to join its commercial team in New Ross, County Wexford.

You'll be involved from the moment a tender lands, assessing the scope, carrying out detailed take-offs, working with suppliers and subcontractors, and ultimately helping turn opportunities into successful projects.

And with projects spanning commercial, industrial, pharmaceutical, data centre and infrastructure sectors, there's plenty of variety in the work you'll be pricing.

The Role

As a Structural Steel Estimator, you'll play a key role in securing new business.

You'll take tender information and turn it into a detailed, accurate and competitive estimate, working closely with clients, engineers, architects, suppliers and the internal project delivery team throughout the process.

You'll need to be comfortable working with detailed structural and architectural information, understanding fabrication and erection requirements and spotting the commercial details that could make or break a tender.

What you'll be doing

• Preparing accurate and competitive estimates for structural steel fabrication and erection projects
• Reviewing architectural, structural and fabrication drawings and project specifications
• Analysing tender documentation to understand scope, risks and commercial opportunities
• Producing detailed steelwork take-offs and material schedules
• Obtaining and evaluating supplier and subcontractor quotations
• Liaising with engineers, project managers and clients throughout the tender process
• Preparing comprehensive tender submissions to strict deadlines
• Attending pre-tender and post-tender meetings where required
• Supporting value engineering exercises and identifying commercially viable solutions
• Maintaining accurate records of estimates, pricing and tender documentation
• Supporting project handovers following successful contract awards
• Monitoring material pricing and market trends to ensure estimates remain competitive

What are they looking for?

This is a role for someone who understands structural steel estimating from the ground up.

You'll ideally have:

• Previous experience estimating structural steel fabrication projects
• Experience within structural steel or an associated construction environment
• A strong understanding of structural steel drawings and engineering documentation
• Proven experience preparing detailed tender submissions
• Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills
• Excellent commercial awareness
• Strong attention to detail
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
• The ability to manage multiple tenders and competing deadlines
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• A full driving licence
• Eligibility to work in Ireland

Experience with estimating software, fabrication processes, erection methodologies, procurement or supply chain management would be advantageous.

Knowledge of BIM or Tekla drawings would also be beneficial, as would a third-level qualification in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.

You'll need to be organised enough to keep multiple tenders moving, commercially minded enough to understand where the opportunities are, and technically confident enough to work through detailed project information.

You'll also be someone who enjoys working with people.
