The Social Work Assistant will work within Children's Services supporting children in care and families involved in care proceedings. Working alongside qualified social workers and team managers, you will help deliver high-quality, child-focused services aimed at improving outcomes for children and young people.
You will assist with the completion of statutory assessments, care plans, and reviews, ensuring all information is accurately recorded on case management systems in a timely manner. A key aspect of the role includes supervising family time (contact sessions), observing interactions, and providing clear, professional feedback to support decision-making and planning.
You will carry out home visits and direct work with children, young people, and families, providing practical and emotional support while promoting safety, stability, and positive engagement. You will also help families understand plans in place and signpost them to appropriate services and support.
The role involves regular multi-agency working, collaborating with professionals such as schools, health services, police, and other partner agencies to ensure coordinated support and safeguarding.
You will be responsible for accurate recording of information, identifying and escalating risk, and ensuring safeguarding procedures are followed at all times.
This is a child-centred, relationship-based role requiring strong communication skills, resilience, good organisation, and the ability to manage competing priorities both independently and as part of a team.
A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential due to community-based working.
