Site Quantity Surveyor - Structural Steel

The Company

When you're working with structural steel, the numbers only tell half the story.

The other half is happening on site, steel being fabricated, delivered and erected, variations appearing and programmes changing.

This is a family-run structural steel contractor with its own design, fabrication and erection capability, giving the commercial team visibility of a project from the first drawing through to the final piece of steel being installed.

They're now looking for a Site Quantity Surveyor to make sure the commercial position keeps pace with what's actually happening on site.

The Role

You'll work closely with site managers, erectors, project teams and the in-house design and engineering function, turning site progress into accurate valuations and keeping control of the commercial position.

• Measure completed structural steelwork and prepare accurate applications for payment.
• Identify variations, additional works and potential claims before they disappear into the final account.
• Reconcile site records against fabrication output and erection programmes to keep a clear view of project costs.
• Report commercial risks to Project Managers and the Commercial Manager, with clear actions to address them.
• Manage final account information and supporting records so that completed work can be properly valued and agreed.
• Feed accurate site information into the wider commercial and cost-control systems.

The Candidate

You'll already understand Quantity Surveying within a live construction environment and be comfortable getting out onto site rather than managing everything from behind a desk.

You'll need:

• Proven experience measuring and valuing structural steelwork on live construction projects.
• Ability to read technical drawings and understand contractual requirements.
• Experience dealing with variations, claims and applications for payment.
• Understanding of fabrication and erection programmes and how they affect project costs.
• Strong numerical accuracy and commercial awareness.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to spend significant time travelling to sites across Ireland and the UK.
