Senior BESS Design Manager, EPC
McCarran, Nevada or San Francisco, California | Permanent

Battery Energy Storage Systems are becoming a critical part of modern infrastructure.

As renewable energy, AI, data centres, EV charging, advanced manufacturing and wider electrification continue to grow, the challenge is no longer just producing power. It is having reliable power available exactly when and where it is needed.

We are supporting a major US battery materials and energy infrastructure business that is looking for a Senior BESS Design Manager to join their EPC team.

This role will take ownership of design and engineering delivery for Battery Energy Storage System projects, from early concept through construction and deployment.

You will manage greenfield and brownfield BESS infrastructure projects, coordinate internal stakeholders and external design partners, manage design schedules and funding, support permitting and construction documentation, and help drive projects through design milestones into buildable, construction-ready packages.

The role is ideal for someone who understands BESS design, electrical infrastructure, grid-scale energy storage and multi-disciplinary project delivery.

Key experience required:

  • Strong background in BESS, energy storage, renewables, electrical infrastructure or EPC project delivery

  • Experience managing design and engineering packages from concept through IFC and construction support

  • Deep understanding of grid-scale energy storage technologies and balance-of-plant equipment

  • Knowledge of inverters, transformers, switchgear, HVAC, fire suppression and control systems

  • Working knowledge of electrical system design, interconnection requirements and utility-scale project execution

  • Understanding of battery systems, power conversion, medium/high voltage systems, protection, communications and controls

  • Familiarity with standards such as UL 9540, UL 1973, UL 1741, IEEE, NEC, NFPA and IEC

  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary scopes across internal teams, external consultants and construction partners

  • Strong communication, stakeholder management and project management skills

  • Degree in Engineering preferred, ideally Electrical Engineering

  • PE or RA licence preferred

This is an opportunity to help deliver energy storage infrastructure that supports grid reliability, renewable integration, peak demand management and long-term US energy resilience.
