Rent Services Officer (Income Officer)
Location: Camden Council, 5 Pancras Square, London (agile/flexible working)
Contract: 3+ months (initial)
Rate: £27 per hour (paid via umbrella)
The Role
We're seeking an experienced Rent Services Officer to join Camden Council's busy Rent Service Team.
You will:
Manage a designated "patch" of residential and non-residential rent accounts.
Maximise rent and arrears collection while supporting tenancy sustainment.
Ensure strict adherence to the pre-court action protocol.
Progress cases through recovery action, including preparing legal papers and attending court if required.
Provide advice and referrals to support agencies for vulnerable residents.
Identify and implement best practice in arrears recovery.
Essential Criteria
Knowledge of tenancy management, including successions, abandonments and use and occupation.
Knowledge of the legal aspects of housing management, arrears collection methods and Northgate systems.
Ability to deal effectively with difficult customers, remaining calm and professional.
Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and service KPIs.
Experience of working sensitively and effectively with diverse communities in a customer-focused environment.
Proven experience of managing rent arrears cases.
The Person
Computer literate and numerically proficient, with advanced ability in Northgate and MS Office.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Analytical, highly organised, logical and methodical.
Flexible and team-oriented, willing to provide cover where required.
Background in collections, customer service, or estate management desirable.
