That's where you come in.
This is an opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join an established structural steelwork specialist, taking responsibility for the financial and contractual management of subcontractor accounts across multiple projects nationwide.
You'll work closely with clients, subcontractors and internal teams, providing commercial guidance throughout the project lifecycle while identifying risk, controlling costs and maximising value.
It's a role that will suit a commercially minded QS who enjoys being involved in the detail, but also understands the bigger picture.
The Role
As a Quantity Surveyor, you'll be responsible for the commercial and contractual management of projects, with particular focus on subcontractor accounts.
You'll work across multiple projects, ensuring costs, revenue, cash flow, variations, claims and final accounts are properly managed and commercially controlled.
You'll also have regular contact with clients and subcontractors, including nationwide site visits, making this a role that combines commercial management with genuine project involvement.
What You'll Be Doing
- Managing the commercial aspects of multiple structural steel projects
- Managing financial and contractual arrangements with subcontractors
- Analysing and agreeing subcontract documentation
- Reviewing terms and conditions, warranties and bonds
- Preparing and submitting variations and claims
- Measuring works for interim valuations and final accounts
- Monitoring project cost and revenue performance
- Preparing cost and cash flow forecasts
- Identifying and mitigating commercial and contractual risks
- Providing commercial and contractual advice to internal teams and external clients
- Negotiating and agreeing subcontractor accounts
- Working closely with clients and subcontractors throughout the project lifecycle
- Attending sites nationwide to resolve commercial matters and maintain strong relationships
- Supporting the successful commercial delivery of projects from start through to final account
What We're Looking For
We're looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a strong construction background and a genuine understanding of commercial project management.
You'll ideally have:
- A minimum of 5 years' experience within construction
- Previous experience within structural steel would be advantageous
- Strong understanding of construction contracts and commercial management
- Experience managing subcontractor accounts
- Experience dealing with variations, claims, valuations and final accounts
- Strong commercial and contractual awareness
- Experience with cost and cash flow forecasting
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills
- Confidence dealing with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- The ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
- A commercially focused and proactive approach
- Willingness to travel to sites nationwide when required
A relevant HND or degree would be advantageous.
Professional membership of RICS would also be beneficial but is not essential.
