Quantity Surveyor - Structural Steelwork

Behind every successful structural steel package is someone making sure the numbers stack up.

This is an opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a structural steel business and take a key role in the commercial delivery of projects from initial tender through to final account.

You'll work across the full project lifecycle, managing costs, valuations, subcontractors and variations while working closely with the wider project team to protect commercial performance and maximise value.

The Role

As a Quantity Surveyor, you'll support the commercial management of structural steelwork projects, working from tender and pricing through to project completion.

You'll review drawings and contract documentation, manage commercial processes, monitor costs and work closely with subcontractors and internal teams to ensure projects remain commercially controlled.

This is a varied role with the opportunity to develop your experience across both the technical and commercial sides of structural steel.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Supporting cost planning and project budgeting
  • Preparing and managing valuations
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and contract documentation
  • Monitoring project costs and commercial performance
  • Managing subcontractor accounts
  • Reviewing and agreeing variations
  • Preparing interim payment applications
  • Supporting the preparation and agreement of final accounts
  • Assisting with tendering and pricing activities
  • Identifying commercial risks and opportunities
  • Working closely with project managers, estimators, engineers and subcontractors
  • Providing commercial support throughout the project lifecycle

What You'll Bring

  • A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
  • Minimum 3 years' experience within quantity surveying
  • Experience within structural steel, steelwork or construction would be advantageous
  • Strong commercial awareness and analytical ability
  • Good understanding of construction contracts
  • Knowledge of RIAI and/or NEC contracts would be advantageous
  • Experience managing subcontractors, valuations and variations
  • Strong attention to detail and numerical ability
  • Good communication and negotiation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and MS Office
  • A proactive approach and the ability to manage competing priorities
