Why This Role Matters

A rapidly growing structural steel, bridge fabrication and heavy industrial construction business is looking to strengthen its purchasing and material-management function.

The company has expanded significantly over the past five years and is continuing to increase its workforce, project portfolio and fabrication capacity. This role will be responsible for ensuring materials are purchased, planned and delivered in line with demanding production and project schedules.

You'll work closely with production, project management and operations to prevent shortages, maintain material traceability and support the successful delivery of major structural steel and bridge projects.

Responsibilities

  • Forecast material requirements across active and upcoming projects
  • Coordinate steel orders with mills, service centres and suppliers
  • Manage purchasing activity, inventory levels and material availability
  • Plan deliveries around fabrication and production schedules
  • Maintain accurate material traceability and purchasing documentation
  • Monitor lead times and address potential shortages or delays
  • Develop strong relationships with suppliers and external partners
  • Improve purchasing data, reporting and ERP accuracy
  • Coordinate closely with production, project management and operations
  • Support a growing fabrication business through improved purchasing processes

What We're Looking For

  • Purchasing, procurement or material-management experience within structural steel, bridge fabrication or heavy manufacturing
  • Strong understanding of steel products, mills and service-centre purchasing
  • Experience planning materials around production and project schedules
  • Knowledge of material traceability requirements
  • Confidence working with suppliers and negotiating commercial terms
  • Strong organisational, reporting and problem-solving skills
  • Experience using ERP or material-management systems
  • Tekla EPM or Spectrum ERP experience would be beneficial
  • Ability to work primarily on-site in Pennsylvania
