Project Support Officer - Economic Growth Team (Grade 7)

Location: Hybrid (County Hall, Chichester - 1 day/week in office)
Pay Rate: £16.00 per hour
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week
Contract: Temporary (26 May 2025 - 31 March 2026, with potential extension)
IR35 Status: Inside IR35


About the Role

West Sussex County Council's Economic Growth Team is looking for a proactive and organised Project Support Officer to join our friendly, high-performing team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a broad range of impactful economic development projects that support communities across West Sussex.

As a Project Support Officer, you'll play a vital role in coordinating activities, supporting the delivery of key projects, and helping plan and run events such as meetings, seminars, and briefings. You'll also contribute to communications and marketing efforts, including managing social media content and outreach.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the successful delivery of new and ongoing economic development projects.

  • Coordinate team activities in line with the business plan.

  • Plan and support the delivery of events, meetings, and stakeholder briefings.

  • Assist with marketing and communications, including social media.

  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners.


About You - Skills & Experience

We're looking for candidates with:

  • A Level 4 qualification in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Public Administration)
    OR equivalent practical experience demonstrating applied knowledge in researching, analysing, and evaluating arguments and information.

  • Experience working in a small team to support project or initiative delivery, including developing reports and documentation, and problem solving.

  • A Degree or Diploma in Business Administration (or equivalent)

  • Previous experience in local government or economic development

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.

  • Confidence using digital communication tools and social media platforms.

  • A proactive, flexible attitude and a strong sense of teamwork.


Working Arrangement

  • Office base: County Hall, Chichester

  • Hybrid working: Typically one day per week in the office, with the remainder worked remotely.
