Project Manager - Structural Steelwork

Location: Birmingham, West Midlands
Job Type: Permanent, Full-time
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience

The Company

The steelwork behind a major building is only as good as the person coordinating everything between the drawing and the final bolt.

This is an established structural steelwork business delivering projects through the full process - from detailing and procurement through fabrication, site erection and final handover. With multiple teams and disciplines involved in each project, the Project Manager is the person who keeps the moving parts aligned.

With further projects coming through the business, they are looking for a Project Manager who knows structural steel and can take ownership from contract award through to completion.

The Role

You will manage multiple structural steelwork projects, working across clients, engineers, detailers, fabrication and site teams to keep programmes, costs and delivery under control.

You will:

  • Own projects from contract award through fabrication, erection and final handover.
  • Coordinate detailing, procurement, fabrication and site installation teams around agreed programmes and milestones.
  • Manage client and contractor relationships, acting as the key point of contact throughout delivery.
  • Control project costs, variations, change and commercial performance.
  • Lead project meetings, monitor progress and deal with risks, delays and issues before they affect delivery.
  • Drive safe, compliant project execution through to close-out and final account.

The Candidate

You will have previous Project Management experience within structural steelwork or steel fabrication and understand what happens between the engineering office, fabrication facility and construction site.

You should have:

  • Proven experience managing structural steelwork projects.
  • Strong understanding of steel fabrication and erection processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and architectural drawings.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of contracts, variations and change control.
  • Experience coordinating site teams, subcontractors and fabrication schedules.
  • Good understanding of construction health and safety requirements.
  • Strong planning, organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • Confidence communicating with clients, contractors, engineers and internal teams.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and project management systems.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Take ownership of structural steel projects from award through to completion.
  • Work across the full project lifecycle rather than managing one isolated stage.
  • Direct involvement with clients, contractors, engineers, fabrication and erection teams.
  • Opportunity to manage multiple projects and influence their commercial and operational performance.
  • Birmingham-based position within the structural steelwork sector.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
