Prison Librarian (Part-Time, 24.5 hours)

Lambeth Council is seeking a dedicated and resilient Prison Librarian to deliver vital library services within HMP Brixton. This is a unique and rewarding role, providing access to information, resources, and educational support that can make a real difference to the lives of people in custody.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and oversee the daily operation of the prison library at HMP Brixton.
Support prisoner education, rehabilitation, and personal development through access to books, information, and digital resources.
Develop and promote reading, learning, and cultural activities tailored to the prison population.
Ensure the library is a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space.
Work closely with prison staff, education providers, and external partners to support service delivery.
Maintain accurate records, stock management, and compliance with prison security requirements.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
A qualified librarian (or with equivalent library/knowledge management experience).
Skilled in engaging diverse and hard-to-reach audiences.
Adaptable, resilient, and able to manage challenging situations with sensitivity and professionalism.
Passionate about the role of libraries in education, rehabilitation, and personal growth.
Comfortable working within the security requirements of a custodial environment.
