Licensing Enforcement Officer - Camden Council

We are currently seeking a proactive and experienced Licensing Enforcement Officer to join Camden Council on a temporary contract basis.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in ensuring legal compliance across licensed premises and activities in one of London's most vibrant boroughs.

🔍 Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct inspections, enforcement visits, and investigations across a range of licensing functions, including:

    • The Licensing Act 2003

    • Tables and chairs licensing

    • Massage and special treatment licensing

  • Investigate complaints regarding both licensed and unlicensed premises, working closely with other regulatory authorities.

  • Take enforcement action in line with council policy, including:

    • Preparing reports

    • Giving evidence in court or at panel hearings

    • Issuing statements under PACE

  • Offer guidance and support to businesses on how to comply with licensing laws and regulations.

  • Maintain up-to-date electronic records and ensure the accuracy of team data.

  • Keep abreast of legislation and best practice, including PACE, CPIA, and RIPA.

  • Liaise with internal departments and external agencies including Police, Fire Service, and Government bodies.

  • Represent the council at meetings, committees, and public forums where required.


About You:

  • Previous experience in licensing enforcement or regulatory services within a local authority or similar setting.

  • Solid knowledge of the Licensing Act 2003 and associated enforcement procedures.

  • Confident in preparing legal documents and presenting evidence.

  • Comfortable engaging with businesses, the public, and multi-agency partners.

  • Strong organisational and IT skills.

  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Duration: Initially 3+ months (with potential to extend)

  • Rate: £28 per hour (paid via umbrella company)

  • Location: Camden, London (Hybrid working may be available)
