Steel doesn't become safe because someone has written a risk assessment.

It becomes safe when the people designing, fabricating and erecting it understand the risks and have the right systems and leadership behind them.

That's where you come in.

As HSE Manager, you'll take ownership of health, safety and environmental performance across the workshop and live sites, working closely with fabrication, erection, cladding, quality and project teams.

You'll have the authority to challenge unsafe work, stop it when necessary and make sure safe working becomes part of how the job is done - not something that sits in a folder.

The Role

This isn't a desk-based compliance position.

You'll spend time on the shop floor and live sites, working with supervisors and experienced crews around the practical risks of lifting, work at height, hot works and fabrication.

When something goes wrong, you'll look beyond the incident itself - understanding why it happened and what needs to change so it doesn't happen again.

You'll strengthen inductions, toolbox talks, risk assessments and pre-task planning, while working with project and quality teams to ensure RAMS and method statements reflect what is actually happening on site.

You'll also oversee environmental performance across areas such as waste, coatings, noise and runoff.

What You'll Bring

You'll have experience leading HSE within structural steel, heavy fabrication, construction or erection, with responsibility across both site and workshop environments.

You'll ideally hold a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent and have a strong understanding of construction and environmental legislation.

You'll be able to demonstrate investigations that resulted in genuine changes to working practices, along with practical knowledge of:

• Work at height
• Lifting operations
• Hot works
• Workshop and fabrication hazards
• Permits and high-risk activities
• Environmental controls

You'll also need the confidence to work with experienced tradespeople - knowing when to coach, when to challenge and when to stand your ground.

Why This Role?

HSE isn't sitting in a separate office here.

You'll influence design, fabrication, erection and cladding, working directly with the teams delivering the projects.

You'll report to the Managing Director, with the authority and resources to make changes and strengthen the systems already in place.

There is also scope to develop the environmental and sustainability side of the operation as the business continues to grow.
