Homelessness Assessment Officer
Full-time | Frontline Housing Service
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Homelessness Assessment Officer to join a busy frontline housing team. This role is ideal for someone who can balance sensitivity with strong decision-making, and who thrives in a fast-paced environment supporting vulnerable people.
The Role
Carry out homelessness assessments for single applicants and families.
Make clear, lawful decisions based on current housing legislation.
Manage enquiries, gather evidence and write accurate decision letters.
Support the reduction of existing case backlogs.
Provide a trauma-informed, empathetic and customer-focused service.
Work closely with social care teams, health partners and voluntary sector agencies.
Attend case meetings and make referrals to specialist support services.
Identify potential fraud and escalate where necessary.
Maintain accurate, confidential case records.
What We're Looking For
Experience working with vulnerable people in housing, social care or a related field.
Strong understanding of homelessness legislation and statutory duties.
Confident in assessing complex cases and making sound decisions.
Excellent written communication skills.
Calm, empathetic and resilient under pressure.
Strong partnership and multi-agency working skills.
Solid awareness of safeguarding for both adults and children.
Reliable, organised and able to manage a busy caseload.
