A leading structural steel group is looking for a Senior Health & Safety Advisor to provide senior-level Health, Safety and Environmental leadership across its site operations.

This is a hands-on, site-based role where you'll work closely with site management, subcontractors, project teams and clients to ensure safety standards are not only met, but continually improved.

The Senior Health & Safety Advisor will play an important role in maintaining consistent standards across site operations, supporting the workforce and ensuring the business continues to meet its legislative, client and corporate responsibilities.

You'll also have the opportunity to lead and mentor Health & Safety personnel and work alongside experienced site management teams.

The Role

As Senior Health & Safety Advisor, you'll take responsibility for the day-to-day Health & Safety activities across site operations, including the management of subcontractor compliance.

You'll be visible on site, involved in daily safety coordination and confident enough to challenge decisions where standards are not being met.

The role carries real authority. Where unsafe conditions or behaviours are identified, you'll have the authority to stop work, enforce the required standards and escalate significant risks to senior management.

What you'll be doing

• Managing day-to-day Health & Safety activities across site operations
• Overseeing Health & Safety compliance for subcontractors
• Leading daily site safety coordination, including SPAs, whiteboard meetings and toolbox talks
• Ensuring risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work are developed, reviewed and implemented
• Carrying out regular site inspections, audits and safety walks alongside clients
• Providing leadership, supervision and mentoring to Health & Safety Officers and Site Safety Representatives
• Supporting and advising site management teams on Health & Safety matters
• Ensuring plant, equipment and statutory certifications, including GA1, GA2 and GA3, are valid and properly controlled
• Maintaining plant registers and checking new machinery before it is brought into use
• Managing site safety documentation, inspection records and project safety folders
• Ensuring sites remain fully prepared for audits
• Investigating incidents, near misses and unsafe behaviours
• Identifying root causes and implementing appropriate corrective actions
• Producing weekly and monthly Health & Safety performance reports and EHS KPI information
• Monitoring changes to Irish Health & Safety legislation and assessing their impact on site operations
• Liaising with Head Office, project teams and clients to maintain consistent safety standards
• Managing PPE and safety consumables where required

What are they looking for?

This is a senior Health & Safety position, so you'll need to bring the experience and confidence to operate independently in a live construction environment.

You'll ideally have:

• A degree in Occupational Health & Safety or an equivalent qualification
• A minimum of 5 years' experience in a senior EHS or Health & Safety Advisor position
• Strong knowledge of Irish Health & Safety legislation and construction standards
• Proven experience carrying out audits, inspections and incident investigations
• Experience managing subcontractor Health & Safety compliance
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• The confidence to challenge unsafe practices and make difficult decisions when required
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with site teams, management, subcontractors and clients
• Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and Health & Safety reporting systems
• Training qualifications such as Manual Handling or Abrasive Wheels would be advantageous
• Experience within structural steel, steel erection or manufacturing would be highly advantageous
