Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) - Structural Steel

You can find CWI opportunities everywhere right now.

Very few offer the chance to join a growing AISC fabrication operation expanding into larger and more complex structural steel and bridge projects.

This business continues to scale its fabrication and quality operations across structural steel, bridge and miscellaneous metals work, with a strong backlog already secured and heavier project work continuing to increase.

The Opportunity

This hire is part of the company's continued growth strategy as fabrication volume and project complexity continue to expand.

The business is looking for someone who can help strengthen quality systems, support fabrication teams and maintain high inspection standards across increasingly demanding structural steel and bridge work.

This is not just a paperwork inspection role.

They are looking for someone who can help drive quality culture inside the shop.

The Role

You would be responsible for:

  • Inspecting welds and fabrication processes to AWS standards
  • Supporting structural steel and bridge fabrication quality
  • Performing or overseeing visual inspections (VT)
  • Supporting UT, MT and PT inspection activities
  • Reviewing weld procedures, weld maps and fabrication drawings
  • Maintaining inspection records and quality documentation
  • Identifying non-conformances and supporting corrective actions
  • Working closely with shop leadership, project management and fabrication teams
  • Helping reduce rework, failed inspections and production issues

What They're Looking For

Must Have:

✅ AWS CWI Certification

Strong Preference For:

✅ Structural steel fabrication experience

✅ Bridge fabrication exposure

✅ AWS D1.1 knowledge

✅ UT / MT / PT experience or certifications

✅ Ability to read fabrication drawings and weld maps

✅ Welding background or strong shop floor understanding

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

This opportunity would suit someone looking for:

  • Larger and more complex steel projects
  • Long-term stability with a busy fabrication backlog
  • A growing business rather than a static operation
  • Greater influence on shop quality standards
  • Strong future progression opportunities
  • Exposure to bridge and heavier structural work

The company is continuing to expand its fabrication and quality capabilities and is investing in building stronger operational systems as project demands continue increasing.

Compensation

  • Approx. $40-$50/hr depending on experience
  • Estimated annual equivalent of $80,000-$110,000+ DOE
  • Potential relocation assistance available for the right candidate
