Contracts Manager - Structural Steel
Location: Monaghan, Ireland
Salary: €80,000-€100,000 per annum, depending on experience
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Sector: Structural Steel / Construction
Package: Company van included
The Opportunity
Some steelwork projects are straightforward. The interesting ones rarely are.
When you're managing structural steel projects at scale, the job doesn't stop at getting the steel fabricated and onto site.
It's about knowing what's happening before it becomes a problem.
It's about keeping subcontractors moving, understanding the commercial position, spotting contractual risks early and making sure the project is being delivered safely, to specification and to programme.
This is an opportunity for an experienced Contracts Manager to join an established structural steel business and take ownership of projects across the industrial and commercial sectors, including high-rise developments.
You'll be working closely with site teams, subcontractors, clients and senior management, playing a key role in keeping projects commercially and operationally on track.
The Role
As Contracts Manager, you'll sit at the centre of project delivery, overseeing the operational and commercial performance of structural steel contracts.
You'll be responsible for managing site teams and subcontractors while ensuring that contractual, commercial, quality and safety requirements are being met throughout the project lifecycle.
You'll need to be comfortable being hands-on, making decisions and dealing with issues as they arise - while maintaining a clear understanding of the wider commercial picture.
What You'll Be Doing
- Managing and supervising site foremen, steel erectors and subcontractors
- Managing subcontractor selection and monitoring on-site progress
- Ensuring the highest standards of Quality, Health & Safety and project compliance
- Keeping senior management fully updated on site progress and commercial matters
- Proactively identifying, assessing and mitigating commercial and contractual risks
- Maintaining robust site records covering labour, plant, materials and staff
- Ensuring records provide appropriate cost substantiation for changes, delays and contractual events
- Maintaining accurate records of variations and additions
- Supporting the preparation of monthly commercial documentation
- Assisting with project final accounts
- Attending site and project meetings and ensuring commercial matters are addressed
- Investigating issues and working with the wider team to find practical solutions
- Prioritising competing demands while working within programme, quality and budget constraints
What We're Looking For
You'll need a strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection, alongside the commercial and contractual experience needed to manage projects effectively.
We're looking for someone with:
- At least 3 years' site experience within structural steel
- Previous Contracts Management experience, ideally working for a structural steel fabricator
- Strong technical knowledge of structural steel fabrication and erection
- Experience working across a variety of contracts, particularly high-rise, industrial and commercial projects
- The ability to read and understand technical specifications and structural drawings
- Strong understanding of commercial and contractual risk
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, site teams and senior management
- A proactive, driven and dynamic approach
- The ability to prioritise effectively under demanding time, quality and budget constraints
- A conscientious and self-disciplined approach
- Competent Microsoft Office skills
Knowledge of construction and structural steel software such as StruMIS, AutoCAD, Trimble Connect or Tekla would be advantageous.
Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001 and CE Marking would also be beneficial.
Why This Role?
This isn't simply a role managing paperwork and chasing programmes.
You'll have genuine responsibility for the delivery and commercial performance of structural steel projects, working alongside experienced people in a business that has been operating successfully for decades.
For the right person, it's an opportunity to build a long-term career within a company where technical knowledge, commercial awareness and getting the job done properly are valued.
If you're an experienced Structural Steel Contracts Manager looking for your next challenge, this could be the opportunity to take your career to the next level.
