Job Title: Bid Writer/Estimator
Location: Houston, TX (On-site 5 days per week)
Salary: $85,000 - $95,000 base (flexible for the right candidate) + performance-based bonuses
Day to Day
A leading heavy steel fabrication business is seeking a Bid Writer/Estimator to support the estimating team in preparing complete, professional bid packages for large-scale fabricated structures. Projects include custom bridges, hydraulic gates, dock structures, and other complex steel fabrications.
This position is ideal for someone with a strong technical writing ability and estimating support experience, who can confidently review drawings and specifications and produce clear, logical, well-written scope documents and bid submissions.
Responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, and bid requirements
- Producing professionally written scopes of work and bid documentation
- Coordinating proposal documents such as qualifications, resumes, schedules, clarifications, and supporting technical submittals
- Supporting estimators in assembling complete bid packages
- Assisting post-award with project submittals and technical documentation (as needed)
- Working closely with estimating, project management, engineering, and shop teams
Requirements
- 1+ years of relevant experience (estimating support, technical proposals, project engineering, fabrication, or construction administration)
- Strong technical writing and communication skills (proper grammar and professional document formatting essential)
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and project specifications
- Familiarity with fabrication or heavy industrial construction environments preferred
- Tekla experience required.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills
- Able to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a bid-driven environment
- Must be local to Houston or willing to relocate
- Must be comfortable working primarily on-site (with flexibility for occasional personal needs)
