Rate: £18 per hour (umbrella)

Newport City Council is seeking an Accommodation Officer to join the Housing & Homelessness team on an interim basis. This is a vital role supporting the delivery of temporary, transitional, and settled accommodation services for households at risk of homelessness.
Key Responsibilities
Provide an intensive housing management service across all forms of temporary and supported accommodation.
Secure placements and manage client moves to minimise use of costly emergency provision.
Support private landlords accommodating homeless households, ensuring tenancies are sustained.
Liaise with Housing Benefits, support providers, and partner agencies to maximise funding and maintain support.
Monitor occupancy, ensure rent collection, and keep void levels to a minimum.
Contribute to homelessness prevention initiatives, multi-agency protocols, and council strategy.
Maintain accurate records, case notes, and statistics in line with service requirements.
Participate in the out-of-hours homelessness rota when required.
Requirements
Previous experience in housing management, homelessness, or tenancy sustainment.
Knowledge of housing legislation, benefits systems, and multi-agency working.
Strong communication and problem-solving skills with a customer-focused approach.
Ability to manage sensitive cases with empathy and professionalism.
Flexible approach to working, including potential evening/out-of-hours duties.
