Novax Recruitment are currently looking for a Chargehand Working at Heights (Roofing) in the Islington area.

Monday – Friday, 8:00 – 17:00.

40 hours per week.

£22 – £24 per hour PAYE.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• To contribute towards the delivery of an efficient, cost effective and customer focused responsive housing repairs service to approximately 24,000 council homes.

• To work effectively using own initiative as appropriate to enable timescales and service standards to be met, and deliver an efficient service, in line with agreed policies.

• To undertake trade duties where required, providing supervisory, cover in the absence of the supervisor to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of responsive repair works, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety legislation. To manage on site activities to ensure the highest levels of productivity, quality and cost effectiveness.

• To provide advice to the General Repairs team of up to 30 employees, including apprentices, in the absence of the supervisor. This includes providing instruction, allocating work, checking quality, and addressing any issues.

• To support the supervisor to maintain high levels of attendance, motivation and discipline. This includes monitoring attendance and notifying the Supervisor of any absence, disciplinary and capability issues.

• To assist the Supervisor with the delivery of tool box talks as required keeping suitable documented records and attendance of all meetings.

• To address any non-compliance and notify the Supervisor or Service Manager of any continued Issues.

• To carry out site safety inspections.

• To provide positive, effective communication to trade staff, work colleagues and tenants.

• To assist the Team Leader with investigations into any accidents, complaints or other employment matters. This includes gathering information and providing written reports.

• To deputise in the absence of the Supervisor. This includes the delivery of team briefs and updates, dealing with any day to day staffing issues.

• To organise work with the works schedule planner to ensure works are carried out within service standards.

• To work with the Materials Team to order tools, equipment and materials in line with procedures as and when required to ensure repairs are effectively managed. This includes working with the Team Supervisor to ensure adequate arrangements are in place to control and maintain stock levels.

• To liaise with customers and provide them with accurate and timely information on repairs to their property.
• To monitor the work of the team and individuals and raise any concerns as they arise. This includes keeping the Supervisor informed of issues and problems.

• To assist the Supervisor to undertake quarterly vehicle inspections ensuring that agreed standards are met. Instigate appropriate remedial action required in line with procedures where these standards are not met and completing the appropriate documentation as required.

• To assist the Supervisor where required inspecting all tools and equipment at quarterly intervals for suitability, condition and compliance and providing information of any amendments required to those responsible for updating of the asset register.

• In the absence of the Supervisor, to assist the Service Manager in responding to complaints & enquiries.

• To be willing to work flexibly in the interests of the service, this may include some work outside of standard office working hours.

• To occasionally travel to other sites within the borough to provide support or attend meetings including attendance of weekend and evening meetings and events.
