An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Disrepair Caseworker to work in Haringey within the Housing Sector. The postholder will Lead on the management of legal claims for Property services ensuring all technical aspects of claims for and against Haringey Council are fully considered. To negotiate and liaise with tenants, leaseholders, their legal and surveying representatives, Legal Services and other professional bodies. To identify areas of statutory disrepair and defects under the current Housing Disrepair Protocol.
Duties and responsibilities
Undertake the lead role for Property Services in the defence and management of legal claims to minimise costs and reputational impact. Act as the instructing officer to the Council’s solicitors.
Be the point of contact for residents, arranging the initial disrepair survey, keeping the resident updated during the process and attend site meetings when required.
Co-ordinate, instruct and manage the work surveyors, external consultants and expert witnesses involved in case management. Ensure that all parties are properly briefed and work to clear timescales. Ensure that meticulous records are kept by all parties. Monitor the quality of surveys, specifications and reports, and deal effectively with shortcomings.
Organise and facilitate mediation between all parties to seek early settlement. Prepare witness statements, Court papers and legal bundles. Represent the Council in court and act as expert witness.
Skills and Experience:
A good standard of education with a GCSE (or equivalent) English and Mathematics at level C or ability to demonstrate suitable work experience necessary for delivering the role.
Experience of working with a social landlord or within a local authority)
Experience of preparing cases for court including: drafting witness statements, preparing court bundles.
