Assistant Chief Executive – Chief Digital Officer

The Chief Digital Officer will lead on the Council’s future vision and direction for digital, data and technology, creating solid foundations in terms of infrastructure, systems and staff capability; while developing the use of innovative and emerging technology to improve services. They will be responsible for ensuring both in-house and commissioned services are high-quality, well supported and provide value for money.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the Chief Digital Officer will be leading the Council’s ambitious agenda and Corporate Plan through providing a high-quality, innovative digital, data and technology service, and providing executive level leadership to Newham.
As an Assistant Chief Executive, the Chief Digital Officer will report directly to the Chief Executive and provide key strategic support, including representing or deputising on behalf of the Chief Executive where required.
The Chief Digital Officer will collaborate with the other Assistant Chief Executives (Chief Transformation Officer and Chief Marketing Officer) to lead a whole Council approach to ensuring that opportunities are maximised, systemic challenges are tackled and the Council ‘gets stuff done’ to deliver the best possible outcomes for the residents of Newham.
The Chief Digital Officer will lead on developing the Council’s vision for digital, data and technology; and be accountable for all aspects of delivery and improvement. This will range from the upgrading/replacement of legacy systems and complex system redesign through to using emerging and technology to innovate services.
The remit of the Chief Digital Officer covers the delivery of Newham sparks and the role digital, data and technology can play in the wider economic development of Newham. The Chief Digital Officer will collaborate with colleagues across the Council including Community Wealth Building and Lifelong Learning to increase opportunities for residents to build skills in digital, data and technology, and to establish Newham as a destination for the data economy.
The post holder will participate in the Councils emergency arrangements as an on call member of the strategic or tactical response team at the appropriate level
